Electronic Bankruptcy Noticing Program Information

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California, in conjunction with other bankruptcy courts and the Administrative Office of the United States Courts, is now offering a new way for your organization to receive bankruptcy notices from the court. Electronic Bankruptcy Noticing (EBN) electronically transmits bankruptcy notice information to participating creditors.

EBN Delivery Options

The Bankruptcy Noticing Center (BNC) electronically transmits a variety of bankruptcy notices. Creditors may receive bankruptcy noticing information via the following methods:

• Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) software;
• Fax; and
• E-mail.

EBN replaces the paper notices with a computer-to-computer process and will provide notices days faster than the United States Mail!

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Method

The EDI method is recommended for high-volume recipients (200 or more notices per week) who want to automatically process data using computer database to computer database transfers. EDI transmitted notices provide variable information such as, form identification codes, debtor names, and 341 meeting locations.

EDI software is available from various vendors.

Fax Method

The fax method is recommend for recipients who do not have an Internet E-Mail account, but want to eliminate mail pieces. Only notices that do not exceed 30 pages will be transmitted via fax. Any notices exceeding this amount will be mailed to the recipient. A group of notices that exceeds 30 pages will be faxed in 30-page segments.

Recipients who choose the fax delivery method will be placed on a 30-day redundancy delivery mode. During this period, notices will be faxed as well as, sent via US Mail. The redundancy mode will automatically lapse after the 30-day period.

E-mail Method

The e-mail method is recommended for recipients who want the speed and convenience of receiving notices on line. Notices received via e-mail may be displayed on the recipient's desktop for easy reading or printing.

In order to access bankruptcy notices transmitted via e-mail, EBN Phase II participants must have an e-mail provider that is DSN-compliant — i.e., capable of returning to the BNC a Delivery Status Notification (DSN).

Participants must also have a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader installed in their computers. Please click here to obtain a free copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Recipients who choose the e-mail delivery method will be placed on a 30-day redundancy delivery mode. During this period, notices will be sent via e-mail as well as, via US Mail. The redundancy mode will automatically lapse after the 30-day period.
