Case Information

Copies of the bankruptcy petition, as well as other documents filed in the case including transcripts and audio files, can be obtained through the Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) system.  PACER is the federal judiciary’s electronic public access service that allows users to obtain case and docket information from the Bankruptcy Court via the Internet.  Anyone seeking access to PACER must register with the PACER Service Center at http://www.pacer.psc.uscourts.gov.  Information on ordering transcripts not already on the docket can be found here.

U.S. Bankruptcy Court Hours and Information

All persons conducting business with the Bankruptcy Court are permitted to use the Turk Street entrance to the Philip Burton Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, which is located at 450 Golden Gate Avenue.  Please note: The Turk Street entrance closes at 4:30 PM.

All parties entering any federal building must show a government-issued picture ID and must pass through a security screening device.  Acceptable forms of identification include official state or United States government identification such as a driver's license or passport.  The only acceptable international identification is a government-issued passport with a current United States visa.  Proper decorum is expected of all visitors to the Federal Building and the Court.

Accessing the Courtroom

The Courtroom is located on the 16th Floor, Courtroom 17.  The overflow courtroom will be on the 16th Floor, Courtroom 19.

Hearings

Unless noted otherwise, all court hearings will be conducted via telephone or by zoom videoconference. Please refer to the posted court calendar on the Bankruptcy Court's website for instructions.

Requests to Appear Pro Hac Vice

As provided in Civil L.R. 11-3, made applicable to this case by B.L.R. 1001-2(a), an attorney who is not a member of the Bar of the Northern District of California, but who is an active member in good standing of the bar of another United States court or of the highest court of another state or the District of Columbia, may appear in an action in this district after he or she has been admitted to practice pro hac vice.  Attorneys wishing to appear pursuant to these local rules are requested to comply with these procedures.  Upon complying with these procedures and admission, to e-file directly within the Bankruptcy Court, you will need to register and apply for an ECF account.

Media Information

Broadcasting of proceedings is prohibited by policy of the Judicial Conference of the United States.  This encompasses the use of all audio or video recording devices of any kind.  Members of the media or the public may not photograph or record any court proceeding under any circumstances.

The Court will set up an audio-video feed to another courtroom and to the Federal Bar Association Media Center located on the 1st Floor of the Federal Building, as needed to accommodate additional observers and members of the media.

The Media Center offers closed-circuit viewing of certain high-demand court prceedings and facilities for holding press conferences.  The broadcast feed to the Media Center of court proceedings from any courtroom is subject to the Court's policies on photography, audio and video recording and broadcasting.

The press room on the 18th Floor has workspace to accommodate visiting reporters in addition to journalists who regularly cover the Northern District and use the Press Room as their primary workspace.  More information about the Press Room is available here.
