Free Legal Advice May Be Available to You |
If you have filed for bankruptcy and you are not represented by an attorney, you may have legal questions regarding your bankruptcy case. Volunteer bankruptcy attorneys and law students offer free legal advice to low-income individuals throughout the Bay Area. |
If you are currently involved in a bankruptcy case and cannot afford the services of a lawyer, you may be able to receive free legal advice from a volunteer attorney. |
How it Works |
Free legal clinics are frequently conducted throughout the Bay Area. Please visit the court’s website at http://www.canb.uscourts.gov [1] for additional information, hours and locations, or ask the Clerk’s Office staff at any of the four bankruptcy court locations listed below [2]. |
Legal assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Make sure to bring your relevant documents with you. Subject, to availability, clinics will be held in San Francisco, Oakland, Pleasant Hill and San Jose, with additional sites to be announced at a later date. |
Please visit the court’s website at http://www.canb.uscourts.gov [1] for the most up-to-date and detailed information regarding the times and locations of future clinics. |
Terms and Conditions |
Please note that the attorneys staffing these legal clinics can only provide brief legal advice related to your current bankruptcy case. They will not represent you in that proceeding and will not provide legal advice on other matters. |
The legal clinics are not guaranteed to solve all of your legal issues related to your case. The volunteer attorneys can give you the number of local referral agencies that may be able to help you find an attorney for additional services. |

Our volunteers are bankruptcy attorneys who are committed to assisting the public who find themselves challenged by the basic legal questions of the adversary proceeding process and who cannot afford to hire a lawyer. The effort is supported by the following non-profits: |
