Procedures for Noticing and Conducting Hearings Assigned to
Judge Charles Novack in the Oakland Division
United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California
(Effective July 23, 2024)
Effective July 23, 2024, all debtors, creditors, counsel, and other interested parties shall comply with the following procedures when noticing or participating in hearings in cases assigned to Judge Charles Novack. The failure to comply with these procedures may result in hearing dates being vacated or continued.
All matters before Judge Novack are conducted in the courtroom, unless otherwise ordered by the court. Litigants and interested parties may appear at the hearing either in person or by Zoom video or telephone. Specific procedures for any evidentiary hearings, settlement conferences, or trials shall be determined by Judge Novack in consultation with counsel.
Notice requirements for matters set for hearing:
The notice of hearing must state that counsel, parties, and other interested parties may attend in person in Courtroom 215 in Oakland, by Zoom video, or by Zoom telephone. Additional information is available on Judge Novack’s Procedures page on the court’s website, and information on how to attend the hearing by Zoom will be included with each calendar posted under Judge Novack’s Calendar on the court’s website.
Notices of hearing that do not contain the designated language may be stricken and the hearing may be vacated.
