The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Linux Administrator.   As part of the Information Technology Section, the Linux Administrator is responsible for maintaining and augmenting the courts systems in a dynamic and team centric environment. You will be challenged to manage the performance and configuration of variety of platforms and systems on which our citizens depend. You will work to find ways to automate administrative tasks to make room for the next big thing to be adopted by the court. In this role you must possess the ability to handle periodic weekend and after-hours work.


Representative Duties:

  • Manage and maintain the court’s Unix/Linux-based systems, including server configuration, performance tuning, patching, backups, and security hardening.
  • Provide backend development, administration, and operational support for Drupal-based web applications hosted on Linux platforms.
  • Document Drupal architecture, workflows, and standards, including environment design (development, test, and production), deployment processes, configuration management, and change control.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Drupal site building, theming, and module development, including configuration of content types, views, roles/permissions, and custom or contributed modules.
  • Ensure the continuous operations and availability of Drupal-based systems, including monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, and coordination of maintenance windows.
  • Lead Drupal-related technical efforts, coordinating with IT leadership, developers, system administrators, and business stakeholders to plan enhancements, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Advise management on automation needs, timelines, and cost impacts; recommend system, database, and application objectives and capabilities while anticipating future requirements and risks.
  • Design and implement enhancements that promote reliable, secure, and effective system and application operations with minimal disruption to court business.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:
2+years of full-time (or equivalent) experience designing, implementing, or maintaining computer systems that include the completion of computer project assignments involving systems analysis, computer programming, systems integration, and information technology project management.

Or
Completion of a master's degree or two years of graduate study (27 semester or 54 quarter hours) in an accredited university in computer science, information technology, information systems, cybersecurity, or another field closely related to Linux server administration and enterprise systems operations.

  • Good knowledge of programming languages (e.g., PHP, Composer, Twig, YAML, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bash, Python, SQL, Perl).
  • Good research, evaluation, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Skill in advising technical and non-technical customers in automation techniques and processes.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Possesses professional demeanor.
  • Must be willing to fully participate in a team environment.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience administrating and supporting Drupal in a Linux environment, including upgrades, security patching, performance optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience developing or maintaining custom Drupal modules and themes and integrating Drupal with external services or databases.
  • Familiarity with documenting and enforcing web application standards, governance, and best practices. 
  • Experience supporting mission-critical systems in a high-availability or regulated environment. 
  • Experience coordinating application work with IT leadership, developers, and operational staff in a structured change-management environment.
