Memorial Service for Retired Chief Judge Lloyd King

Hon. Lloyd King, former Chief Judge of the Northern District of California Bankruptcy Court, passed away on October 17, 2019. The court will hold a memorial to honor and remember him on December 9, 2019, at 4:00 PM in the Ceremonial Courtroom, 19th Floor, 450 Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco. Members of the bar and the general public are welcome to attend. Visitors will need government issued identification to pass through security upon arrival.

Federal Holiday - Thanksgiving

Recruitment to the Bench-Bar Liaison Committee

The Bench-Bar Liaison Committee (the “Committee”) is seeking members of the Bar to serve a three-year term on the Committee. There are currently four (4) vacancies on the Committee and service will commence on July 1, 2019.

Prospective Committee members should review the requirements and selection criteria of General Order No. 15. Trustees and employees of the U.S. Trustee are eligible to apply. Applicants must commit to participate in six to eight Committee meetings each year during their membership term and to otherwise actively further the Committee’s mission. To apply for a position on the Committee, please send a letter of interest along with a current resume or curriculum vitae to the Committee Co-Chairs, Adam N. Barasch (anb@severson.com) and Joanne LaFreniere (j_lafreniere@comcast.net) by June 14, 2019.

Invitation for Q&A in McKinleyville with Judge Lafferty

Please join us for a discussion of practices and procedures and judges’ inclinations to be conducted after the conclusion of the Court’s calendar in McKinleyville on June 7, 2019.

It is currently estimated that the discussion will commence shortly after 10:00 a.m. and last for approximately one hour, and will be conducted in the same manner as such get-togethers were frequently conducted by the esteemed and honorable Judge Jaroslovsky. Among other topics, Judge Lafferty expects to lead a discussion concerning bankruptcy cases with connections to the cannabis industry.

You are free to appear personally or to sign up through court call shortly after 10:00 a.m.

CM/ECF 5.2 Release, Effective April 29, 2019

Effective April 29, 2019, the Court has migrated from CM/ECF version 5.1.4 to 5.2. This release was primarily applied in order to strengthen our system's integrity and security, and the public should not see any direct changes to our program.

Court operations will not be affected, including matters set for hearing and public hours during the government shutdown. The court's case management system (CM/ECF) and PACER, will remain available as well.

Due to PG&E electrical work and the GSA closure of the federal building annex, the Santa Rosa Division will be closed on Wednesday, January 16, 2019. If you must file a document please go to either the Oakland office at 1300 Clay Street, 3rd Floor, Oakland, CA 94612 or the San Francisco office at 450 Golden Gate Avenue, 18th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94102. Both offices are open from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Federal Holiday - Veterans Day

Effective September 17, 2018, the Clerk’s Office will no longer accept cash.

The Court will only accept a money order or a cashier’s check made payable to “Clerk, U.S. Bankruptcy Court.”  Please note, from a non-debtor the Clerk will accept a business check or a credit card.  Personal checks are not accepted.

Federal Holiday - Columbus Day

New Form Objection to Claim (San Jose/Salinas)

Effective August 1, 2018, the use of a new form objection to claim will become mandatory in the San Jose and Salinas divisions.  Word and .pdf versions of this form are attached.  This revised form provides for a 30-day notice period, which is required by Rule 3007(a) and B.L.R. 3007-1(c).  It also requires, consistent with B.L.R. 9013-1(b) and (d), that factual assertions be supported with concurrently filed declarations and that legal arguments be supported by a concurrently filed memorandum of points and authorities that cites to and discusses relevant authority.  Please be advised that the court is working with a diverse ad hoc committee of attorneys and trustees to revisit the court's rules and guidelines regarding attorney compensation in Chapter 13 cases and will be addressing, among many other things, whether this new form justifies an increase in attorney fees.
